Image from the “Film Still” series, a three-dimensional interpretation of the film still by means of virtual 3D-models for its subsequent reproduction by computer rendering, student work – selection, course: “Image and Architecture II”, taught by Philipp Schaerer, spring semester 2014, Master of Arts HES-SO in Architecture, Joint Master of Architecture Fribourg JMA-FR. The aim of the module “Film Stills” was to recreate scenes that students had chosen from films, using the modeling and rendering software Cinema 4D. The main focus of the works was in the analysis of lighting conditions found in the images as well as the transfer and reproduction of the images within the software environment. Scenes were deliberately chosen that had a manageable number of objects in order to focus the work on the lighting control and the texture of the pictures. Within a relatively short timespan, the students developed their 3D scenes.
